LED vs Plasma: Energy Consumption

Here we are. It’s 2010 and the LED vs Plasma question is just beginning. This is round one here at LED vs Plasma. For this round, we’re going to look at power consumption for both LED and Plasma televisions. It should be noted that LED HDTVs are actually a variation of LCD televisions.

Power Consumption: LED HDTV

Because LED televisions are based on LCD technology, they’re going to have the same benefits when it comes to energy consumption. That said, the LED back-light technology actually requires even less power than older model LCD televisions. This is great news for you when you get your electric bill and for the planet as well.

Power Consumption: Plasma HDTV

If you don’t care about pulling large amounts of electricity for your television – or you rarely watch it for long periods – you should go with a plasma television. They do pull quite a bit of power, however. So if you do care about power consumption, LED is going to be the clear winner.

LED vs Plasma: Round One – Winner

If you haven’t guessed by now, the LED HDTV is the clear winner when it comes to power consumption. This is just one aspect that you should consider when trying to answer the LED vs plasma question.     Do you guys have the power ratings comparison and possibly even what the differences would work out to over different durations of time.

    I figured out the power consumption.. I went with the Plasma by the way.
    Based on running your TV about 5 hours a day 365 days a year (thats a lot).
    One of the most power hungry TV’s is the panasonic 65″ Plasma.
    This would cost about 125.00 a year .. give or take a few bucks depending on your electical companies charges.
    A 50″ Panasonic Plasma is about $98.00 a year (same run time)
    Where an 50″ LG plasma (LGPG20) is about $68.00 a year.
    So lets just take an average with these plasmas and say its about $90.00 a year to run a 50 -55 inch plasma 5 hours a day everyday.

    Now… LED Tv’s
    Without getting into specific makes and models…
    They average out at about $38.00 a year to run a 50″ LED.

    So anually your going to save only $52.00 a year getting an LED over a Plasma.
    Given the fact that LED Tv’s are anywhere from $500 – $1,500 more expensive than the Plasma of the same size… it will take 10 – 30 years of watching 5 hours a day to realize any savings by going with LED on this basis alone.

    putting a cathode into a light emitting diode, here it is with all of its current and 1's and zeroes. it gives off light because one side is more positive than the other. here with my circuit setup you can see what's going on with the….one flat side up here with the positive and negAtive….turn it 360 degrees and watch it light up…because it's an LED. SERIOUSLY MAN READ A FUCKING BOOK AND STOP SPAMMING THE SHIT OUT OF YOUTUBE.
