This is probably not something you have thought about before, but what happens to your television after you throw it away is something you should care about. If not for you, then for your children and future generations.

Rather than giving you a long, boring lecture on why you should recycle your TV, we are going to concentrate a little more on the how to recycle your television.  Sound good? Great.

New televisions are typically “passed down” or used in secondary rooms when new TVs are brought into the house, but at some point there are either too many televisions or a TV finally “gives up the ghost” and goes black for the last time. In either of these cases, a television is sometimes just carelessly tossed in the garbage.

While you may be able to get away with throwing your television away in the garbage depending on where you live (some areas do have big fines), but as a responsible citizen, you should think twice about doing this. There are options – safe ones that are better for the environment – when dealing with dead televisions.

Where to Recycle Your Television

The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) of the United States has a wonderful resource for recycling electronics (like televisions.) The page is a great place to start your search for a place to recycle (donate) your old television.

If you’re short on time, know that Best Buy has a great recycling program. No matter where you bought the electronics, they will recycle it for you. If you’re wanting to get something out of your old television, you may be able to trade it in for a Best Buy gift card.  You’ll have to check the Best Buy site for details on that program, but it’s something to check out.

Really? You are upset at NASA's 17.5 Billion yearly budget? That is 17.6 Billion spent on space exploration and scientific research. Since 1958 they have filed over 6000 patents with the United States government, some of which you benefit from in your daily life. Medical advances alone have extended the average life expectancy of our species considerably. Ever hear of kidney dialysis? You can thank NASA for that technology. CAT scan machine? Yep, that was NASA too.
